Qualification Description

AQF Level: Certificate III qualifications are level 3 of the Australian Qualifications Framework.

This qualification provides a trade outcome in solid plastering for residential and commercial work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, solid plastering. Solid plasterers apply plaster, cement and other mixtures to walls to create smooth or decorative finishes to interior walls and to render to exterior walls.

Occupational titles may include:

  • Solid Plasterer
  • Renderer

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Education Pathways

Learners who successfully complete this qualification may progress into further studies such as:

Course Duration

Full time: over a period of 52 weeks of delivery is inclusive of 3 weeks of holiday breaks.
Classroom sessions of 20 hours per week.

Admission Requirements

The CPC31020 - Certificate III in Solid Plastering allows direct entry into this qualification at the time of publication in training.gov.au. However, the Melbourne Institute of Australia requires candidates to meet its admission requirements prior to enrolling into this qualification to ensure that they have the required skills and knowledge to successfully complete the qualification at this AQF level. This consists of:

2. Evidence that they have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States

OR

3. Evidence that, within two years of their application date, they have successfully completed in Australia a foundation course or a senior secondary certificate of education or successfully completed substantial components (50% or more units according to the training package) Certificate IV or higher level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework on a student visa.

OR

4. Applicants originating from students visa assessment levels 1 and 2 countries without the required IELTS or equivalent score must undertake the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Digital (D) literacy test. For further information on student visa assessment levels visit Department of Home Affairs’ website at www.homeaffairs.gov.au

Minimum age of 18 years and above

All international students are required to complete a Pre-Training Review, including an LLND assessment, to identify individual training needs. This process evaluates the learner’s previous education or training, relevant work experience, and the suitability and relevance of the course to their learning goals. This assessment may be conducted via video call or phone call for both onshore and offshore students.

Note: Satisfactory completion of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry prior to the construction workplace site visit.
